Field Application Engineers: How SolaX Power Australia supports installers

Share my #SolaXStory

Ask any installer what makes or breaks a BESS job, and the answer is rarely the hardware alone – it's the support behind it.

That's where SolaX Power Australia's Field Application Engineers come in: they're not a call centre voice reading from a script. They're qualified engineers who turn up on-site, tools in hand, to help installers get the job done right the first time.

For more than a decade, SolaX Power Australia has been empowering Australians to take control of their energy future. And our engineers are a big part of how we uphold that promise.

What is a Field Application Engineer?

Where a standard support line offers guidance over the phone, an FAE can be physically on-site, checking the wiring, sitting in on a commissioning, or helping fine-tune a system, making sure everything is set up correctly from the start.

For SolaX installers, that means access to real people with real, hands-on solar and battery expertise – before a system goes in, while it's being installed, and long after the system is up and running.

Support at every stage

SolaX's FAE program is built around one idea: support shouldn't stop once the sale is made. In practice, that looks like:

  • Pre-installation: helping installers plan around tricky sites, confirm system design and get commissioning right from the first place.

  • During installation: providing hands-on support, not just remote diagnostics, when installers need an expert's advice and guidance face-to-face.

  • Post-installation: following up on performance, troubleshooting, and fixing issues when something isn't behaving as expected, and making sure our installers are supported.

Boots-on-the-ground support

SolaX Power Australia has dedicated Field Application Engineers in every major Australian city, ready to support installers close to home rather than down a phone line from interstate.

One of those local engineers is Alex Huang, Senior Field Application Engineer with SolaX Power Australia.

"I love helping people solve difficult technical problems. Being able to provide effective solutions and seeing customers and installers leave with confidence motivates me to keep providing hands-on, local support.” Alex Huang, Senior Field Application Engineer, SolaX Power Australia.

Field Application Engineer providing technical support to solar installers in Australia

In 2026, our FAEs have already completed 4,000+ site visits across Australia. That’s thousands of individual moments where an installer had SolaX show up to support them. Those visits go toward:

  • Supporting installers with installation and commissioning

  • Assisting with troubleshooting when required

  • Listening to feedback from installers and end customers

  • Helping improve and upgrade SolaX products based on real-world, on-roof experience

That last point matters more than it might seem. Feedback from site visits doesn't just fix today's job – it shapes tomorrow's product.

Case study: Yasawa Islands, Fiji - supporting local sparkies with zero prior solar experience.

Not every SolaX project looks like a suburban site. Across three resorts in Fiji's Yasawa Islands – Paradise Cove, Blue Lagoon and Octopus Resort – we deployed 1.6MWh of SolaX AELIO battery storage, alongside Future Energy NZ. Getting a system that size right, on remote islands with no easy fallback, meant SolaX's support needed to go further than a phone line. We needed boots on the ground.

That's where SolaX's Senior Field Application Engineers, Danny Fang and David Liu, came in. Danny and David worked alongside Future Energy NZ's on-site team of five trained technicians (with zero prior solar experience) through commissioning – helping the local crew configure and test a battery system at a scale most installers rarely encounter, in a location where getting it wrong wasn't an easy fix. Rather than talking the team through issues remotely, he was there to work through the detail with them directly: confirming settings, troubleshooting in real time, and making sure the installers on the ground had what they needed to get the system running properly the first time.

SolaX's promise to installers isn't just about getting the battery online – it's about who turns up when you need them. Local Field Application Engineers like Alex Huang are proof that "support" at SolaX means real people, in person, backing installers before, during and after every job.

FAQ

  • Do SolaX's FAEs help with commissioning, not just faults?

Yes. FAEs support installers through full system commissioning as well as troubleshooting – checking settings, confirming configuration, and helping get a system running properly after installation, not just showing up after something's gone wrong.

  • What kind of support can I get during and after installation?

FAEs are available for on-site guidance during installation, and ongoing technical support afterwards, including interpreting error codes and diagnostic steps if something needs a closer look. It's the same local, hands-on expertise at every stage, not just when there's a problem.

  • Do I need to wait on hold for technical support?

SolaX installers can reach a local Field Application Engineer directly, rather than relying solely on a remote support queue.
